Revision links

You should now be thinking about planning out your revision timetable for all of your subjects and importantly your geography revision. You have three main areas that you can start producing revision materials for: Coasts,Urban and the Hostile World (Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Tropical Storms and wildfires). We will be giving you materials to help you but there are several things that you can do to help yourself.
  • Not got a timetable yet? Here is one that will take you up to the start of the exam period.
  • Can't find any exam questions to practice? Here is a link to the exam board website that not only has the previous exams but also the answers. You just need to enter geography, GCSE and specification B into the drop down menus.
  • On Miss Cawood's blogs you will find lots of materials that are designed to help you with this course. So make sure you have a look. Here is a link to the one on coasts.
Finally don't forget we are here to help. So if you don't "get" something we are here to help.

Bourton on the Water Photographs

Here is the link to the photographs that I took in  Bourton on the Water last Friday.
It is interesting to contrast these photos with this one taken on a lovely summer's day. This one really does give you an idea of what a honeypot site is like.

Top Trumps

Yesterday you started creating a set of Top Trump cards to show socio-economic inequalities in Birmingham. As a pair you need to use the instructions below to complete a set of 24 or 32 cards. Then cut them out and play top trumps.

First of all visit the census website with neighbourhood statistics

  1. Enter the name of the ward of Birmingham you are looking at and select ‘ward’
  2. Select 'census' → 'key statistics' → 'key figures for 2011 census
  3. You are looking for information on -
  • % of people unemployed
  • % of people with good health
  • % of people 16+ with no qualifications
When you have completed the top trumps and played it through choose three wards that you think are the most affluent and use Zoopla.com and Google Streetview to investigate houses for sale in the area. Think about:
  • How do prices compare to Bicester?
  • Do you think that your judgements are correct (at the moment}?
Now do the same but with what you think are the three most deprived wards.
